Sold out Snow Patrol open-air gig in Vienna.

It was lovely sunny day and since the morning I was in good mood. It wasn´t because of nice weather but because of SNOW PATROL concert in Vienna held that day. It wasn´t my first SNOW PATROL gig, I saw them live as supporting act on U2 concert in Poland, so I knew what kind of show I can expect. I really do like their songs, but after listening this songs live I just started to love it. So no wonder I decided to buy a ticket immediately I found out they will play in Vienna. I can tell you ....it was a right decision :)

The concert took place in Arena Wien on 26.6.2012, it was an open air show what I totally appreciate whereas it was a hot day. I have to tell you it was my first concert in this location, which is famous for alternative performances of all kinds. I was nicely surprised after I entered inside, because this place was just perfect for live shows. The stage was big enough with wide screens and the best thing was the place for standing which was kind of stair-step, so even the delayed fans could enjoy the show without the fear of seeing anything :) For the supporting act SNOW PATROL members chose a band called PARLOTONES. It was really nice to listen to this band, which songs were ok, but I saw that I was not the only one who was much more interested in the headliners of the evening. A bunch of people during the PARLOTONES performance were standing in front of the stage and the rest were just hanging around, talking and drinking beer...a lot of beer :) I thought until the headliners will come the ground will be completely covered with plastic beer jugs. Fortunately there were a lot of waist bins, so not all of the jugs ended up on the ground  :)

A few minutes after eight the fans finally lived to see frontmen Gary & co. Even it was late the sun was still shining so it was good to see completely sold out Arena Wien. The band started with very energetic song Hands open, which really pumped up the crowd, me included. The crowd started to sing along and I knew this was a good beginning. Next song following was Take back the city and Crack the Shutters, which were very well played by the band and get the audience in the right mood. After these three songs the guys switched to ballads so the crowd could rest and enjoy the songs like Run, This Isn´t everything you are, New York or Set the fire in the third bar. What I indeed like about the gig was Gary´s funny comments and work with the audience. I think he and the band enjoyed the show together with the fans. After first tones of songs Shut your eyes and Chasing cars, Gary didn´t have to ask to sing along.....the audience knew exactly what to do and everybody sang along. The atmosphere grew even more after songs like Called out in the dark, Fallen empires and Open your eyes, which is my personal favorite song:) Before they started to play song Lifening, Gary ask the audience to sing the chorus along and explained us that this song is about all the importing things in life and is kind special for him, what we could see when he perform the song with a reall passion. The last song we could hear was Just say yes and with this song SNOW PATROL said good-bye to Vienna fans.

In my opinion it was great gig, greater band and super Austrian audience. The fans left the place happy with smile on their faces and in good mood....so Thank You SNOW PATROL for such a great evening!
